Performance Indoor Golf: A unique golf experience in Pawleys Island
What if you could play golf at more than 350 courses around the world without ever leaving Pawleys Island?
Sounds like crazy talk, huh? Well, it’s not, thanks to Performance Indoor Golf, a new business located on Ocean Highway just across from the North Causeway to the island.
If being able to simulate hundreds of golf courses wasn’t enough, customers can also receive automated pro tips on how to improve their swing and putt.
All this could very well be the hole-in-one many golf enthusiasts have been seeking.
So how is all this possible?
Julie Hiott, one of four owners of Performance Indoor Golf, said it’s all possible through a series of simulators powered by Trackman.
“The Trackman system,” Hiott explained, “will analyze your golf swing and immediately provide data on the simulator, as well as the app on your phone.
The membership-only club that opened earlier this year offers its golf simulators in a climate-controlled environment, so there’s no golf day ruined by rain. It’s never exhaustingly humid (South Carolina golfers know all about that), and it’s never too cold, even on a winter’s day.
It’s always a perfect day for a round at , which is also owned by Hiott’s husband, Jimmy, and Garland and Vicki Greenway.
“Members have access to a driving range for shot analysis or they can choose from over 350 golf courses,” Hiott continued. “You will be able to track your data each time you play.”
Performance Indoor Golf offers a choice of weekly, one-month, three-month, six-month and annual membership. It’s open for members from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
“You can either join online or give us a call, and we can assist you with how to join,” Hiott said. “Once you are a member, we will give you access to our faciliuty through Pro Data Key, and you will be able to access the door with your phone using Bluetooth.”
Then members can download the Trackman app on their phone and use Your Golf Booking to book a bay anytime they would like to use the simulator, she said. All of this is accessible online.
“We have televisions so that our members can watch their favorite sporting event or other show while golfing on the simulator,” Hiott said. “Each bay has a Bose speaker so members can also listen to their favorite music while golfing on the simulator.”
Mike Moreland, who lives in the Litchfield community of Pawleys Island, is an experienced golfer who said Performance Indoor Golf has helped his game.
“I’m learning how to directionally control where the ball will go and the Trackman system shows me what I’m doing wrong so I can make a shot,” he said. “It also shows me how to change my swing to make the ball do what I want it to do.”
Having access to indoor golf simulators and the Trackman system, he said, gives avid golfers a leg up when trying to improve their games.
“When you hit the ball, the screen gives you data about how far it is going, its spin and the path of your golf swing,” Moreland said. “This type of technology is what pros do to practice because it helps visualize shots better.”
It’s not all simulators, though. Performance Indoor Golf has also partnered with three pros from Steve Dresser Golf Academy in Pawleys Island who offer lessons in the indoor facility.
The owners of the membership club are also seeking partners with local golf courses to offer golfers an option in case of inclement weather when outdoor golf isn’t possible.
Pawleys Island is one of the best places in America for golf, winning numerous awards for stellar courses on the Hammock Coast Golf Trail, but Hiott said golf in Pawleys can also mean experiencing it in a whole new way at Performance Indoor Golf.
“We would love to help you improve your game while you enjoy playing golf on our simulators,” Hiott said. “If it’s too cold, too hot or raining outside, it is dry and comfortable at Performance Indoor Golf.”
